Bio
Edward Hicks is a respected director, acting coach, and educator who, since August 2019, has served as Principal of the Oxford School of Drama. His role combines leadership of the school with hands-on teaching, especially in screen acting and directing.
Before this appointment, he spent eleven years at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) as Head of Film, TV & Radio, where he created a new screen acting curriculum supported by Warner Bros (UK). His early career began as an actor including work in the West End and with the Royal Shakespeare Company and transitioned into directing short films and theatre productions. Edward is also a published contributor to acting education resources and is writing a screen acting book for Bloomsbury.
Teaching Style
Edward’s coaching emphasises technical craft, screen-savvy performance, and creative confidence. With a background crossing stage and screen, he encourages students to explore their voice as actors and directors, to embrace storytelling across media, and to cultivate resilience in the evolving industry.
“My focus is on enabling the next generation to create a new and better industry full of new voices.”
